110g

Solo-exhibition Jersey Arts Centre 2008.

Through a sequence of wall-mounted cases housing between 15 to 550 intricately worked small 'pots', each thrown from 110 grams of clay, evocative narrative emerges to create three dimensional canvases.

My objective was not form and function but colour, texture, movement and content in much the same way that a painter approaches a blank canvas. Although there is a strong organizing principle involved in the placement of the pots within the casing, unlike a canvas the end result is not static, because of the complexity of detail in each of the small pieces, they demand to be touched, rearranged and discovered. The work does not, therefore, have a single 'fixed' meaning but its meaning lies in the way that the owner relates to them; how he, or she, gets involved in the work.
